New storm story: The snow is expected to tail off by noon, but more — or a mix of snow and rain — is in the forecast this week.
Up and down the road system, the Veterans Administration canceled medical appointments at Anchorage, Fairbanks, Mat-Su, Homer and Soldotna facilities, citing “inclement winter weather and treacherous road conditions.” A community-based VA clinic in Juneau remained open Monday.
National Weather Service forecasters in Anchorage could see the end of the storm on radar by 8:30 a.m. Monday, but two more storms with snow potential loom on the horizon.Anywhere from 12 to 20 inches of snow were reported in Anchorage on Monday morning as the snow continued. The snow was expected to tail off by noon across much of Southcentral, with the last flakes falling on the upper Hillside and other areas up against the Chugach Mountains, according to meteorologist Carson Jones.
“Whether that falls as all rain or all snow is still to be determined,” he said. “It’s likely going to be a mix.”
