The second week of Durham police’s Festive RIDE campaign is wrapping up with 16 impaired drivers charged.
Officers stopped 1,467 vehicles at checkpoints in Bowmanville, Whitby, Ajax and Pickering last week. That’s slightly more than the second week of last year’s campaign.The 16 people charged is on par with last year’s total for Week 2. Only one novice driver was hit with a licence suspension last week, but eight people were charged with drug offences.
Over 100 people were charged with various Highway Traffic Act offences, which is way up from Week 2 of 2021.In one case last week, police charged an impaired delivery driver, who had passed out inside his vehicle.
