They moved to Kyiv and began their life there. But Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24 and soon the family had to flee the country.The family had originally hoped the war would be over in days and then in a couple of months, but now is unsure what the future holds.Did you know?

Lahoud said her family, which includes eight-year-old Lana and five-year-old Alex, is grateful for the support they have received in Canada. She was anxious in December, but people brought Christmas ornaments, gifts and stockings to the family. On Dec. 29, community members organized a day of activities for Ukrainian children living in Hants, Kings and Annapolis counties at the“You’re far away from everything you’re used to, you’re far away from your friends, from your comfort,” she said. “So just seeing Ukrainians around it makes a difference. And seeing Canadians … care.”“When war broke out, I felt kind of helpless, like there was something I needed to do,” he said.
