Our aid has been significant and it will continue, including 200 more armoured personnel carriers that were manufactured here
Our military assistance to Ukraine includes equipment, training and transportation. Canada is recognized as a leader in the training of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Canada’s training mission, Operation UNIFIER, has trained over 35,000 Ukrainian troops with the skills that they need to defend their nation.
Our aid, combined with allied support — and most importantly, the bravery and courage of Ukrainian troops — is making a substantive difference. Ukraine has regained significant swaths of previously occupied territory in the north, the east, and the south, and I am confident that Ukraine will continue to fight and win this war.Article content
We will continue to provide Ukraine with the aid that it needs. To that end, I had a lengthy and productive meeting today with my Ukrainian counterpart and dear friend, Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov, to get an update on the security situation and to understand Ukraine’s most pressing defensive priorities. A fellow lawyer and public office holder, Minister Reznikov is deeply devoted to his country, and our conversations will continue to inform Canada’s efforts to assist Ukraine.
Our country, Canada, does not exist in splendid isolation. Doing nothing is not — and can never be — an option for Canada. This war has highlighted the importance of aid to Ukraine, and the need to equip our own military with greater capabilities to defend Canada in a changing world. With procurements like the F-35 fighter acquisition that I recently announced, we will ensure that our own Armed Forces have the tools that they need to accomplish the missions we ask of them.
Assistance to Ukraine is not just the right thing to do; it is at the core of our own national interests. As I have reaffirmed to Ukrainian officials throughout my visit today, we stand with Ukraine — now, and for as long as it takes for Ukraine to be free.Share this article in your social network
