Gio Urshela hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning against Marlins left-hander Steven Okert to tie the game at 4. It was the second home run of the season for Urshela, who also doubled earlier in the night. He has nine extra-base hits for the season to go along with 47 singles. The right-hander walked Jonathan Davis before throwing Jorge Soler a 3-and-2 fastball down the middle of the strike zone. Soler’s 17th home run of the season cleared the left-field fence and extended his streak of games with a homer to five. That gave the Marlins a 4-3 lead.
Marlins manager Skip Schumaker challenged home plate umpire CB Bucknor’s original out call at home, bringing both teams back onto the field in a 6-4 game instead of sending the Angels back to the dugout down 5-4. The Angels were trailing 2-1 in the sixth inning when Brandon Drury doubled and Jared Walsh drew a walk. They were on second and third Matt Thaiss, a left-handed batter, was announced as the pinch hitter for Chad Wallach.
Ohtani did not pitch his most efficient game of the season, but he did enough to win. His 10 strikeouts gave him 90 for the season, the most in the American League. By allowing one earned run in six innings, he lowered his ERA to 2.91.
