A left-handed hitter, Phillips has a career OPS of .620 with four teams. He would join the Angels’ depth chart behind starters Mike Trout, Hunter Renfroe and Taylor Ward.
The Angels have signed journeyman outfielder Brett Phillips to a one-year, $1.2-million major-league deal.
Phillips, 28, has a career .620 OPS in 791 major league at-bats, with the Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers and Baltimore Orioles. Last season he had a .466 OPS, splitting time with the Orioles and Rays. Phillips, who hits left-handed, joins an outfield depth chart that includes starters Mike Trout, Taylor Ward and Hunter Renfroe, and potential backups Jo Adell and Mickey Moniak.
The Angels designated right-hander Austin Warren for assignment to create a spot for Phillips on the 40-man roster.
