Angel City FC returns to BMO Stadium to face the Kansas City Current on Sunday and the Washington Spirit next week
“It’s a big opportunity for us to get three points at home,” forward Katie Johnson said. “We’ve come up with two ties and two points on the road. For us to get three points would be really big, and helps us move forward and turn the page.”
After losing the first three games of the season, the Current has won consecutive games. It has also done so against the backdrop of a coaching change, with Matt Porter getting replaced by Caroline Sjöblom. Debinha, a free-agent signing from the North Carolina Courage, leads the league with four goals this season.
“They’ve had some good additions and have proved themselves in the league,” ACFC coach Freya Coombe said. “Debinha is one of those standout players who changes the game when she’s on the field. Overall, being aware of where she is on the field is going to be really important for us.“We’ve loved this for the group for the last eight days,” Coombe said. “We played our best football of this season. We have used the time together on the road to create greater bonds with each other.
Thompson scored in her regular-season debut, becoming the fourth-youngest player to score in league history. She also scored in last week’s draw against the Portland Thorns.
