The new Tottenham Hotspur signing insists the Greek-Aussie’s style of play is brave.
And the new Tottenham star can't help but to admit the Aussie's style of play, that brought him unprecedented success at Celtic topped off by a domestic Treble, is exactly how he would want to go about his business if he were a coach. Maddison made the marquee move from relegated Leicester City to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, as the 26-year-old was a top priority of the Aussie in the transfer market.
The England international has returned the favour with top performances so far under the 58-year-old despite Spurs exiting the Carabao Cup at the first time of asking against Fulham. Postecoglou will no doubt use the international break to fine-tune his Tottenham plan, but players and fans are already feeling the love for the Aussie's unwavering style of play.
Maddison revealed: "The way he wants to play suits me perfectly because it’s how I see football. That’s how I would want the game to be played I think if I was manager, so I’m fulfilling that as a player. He likes players who can take the ball and be brave and bravery is not always just flying into a tackle or shouting at someone. Bravery is having the balls to take the ball and if you give it away, go and take it again.
"The gaffer wants to press high and I’ve been pushing up with whoever’s played as the number nine. He says, ‘What’s the point in not pressing high and sitting off?’ Then if they play long, you have to run back anyway. So it is the same amount of running but you might win the ball – and the perfect example of it was my goal at the weekend.
"I wasn’t naive enough to go in there thinking there wasn’t a chance Harry Kane could leave. I wasn’t going to Tottenham for Harry Kane. Listen, I think he’s the best No9 in the world and I would have loved to have played with him for more than a couple of pre-season games to be honest. But this is the challenge now and we’ve got some brilliant players at Spurs, honestly."
