Former Liverpool and England star Phil Thompson never did when he came up against his clubmates
Andy Robertson wouldn’t think twice about clattering Virgil van Dijk or Cody Gakpo if it helps Scotland get a result against the Dutch.
“Andy has shown in his Liverpool career he is prepared to go head-to-head and face-to-face with some of the best. He has clattered the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez and put them on their backsides and his Liverpool mates will be no different when it comes to helping Scotland to get a result. Andy has shown he doesn’t care for reputations and has taken some of the best attackers in the game to task and left them on the back foot.
“That was big stakes and I was directly up against Kenny – and I don’t think either of us ever shirked a tackle or a challenge. Andy, Virgil and Cody will be the same for those 90-odd minutes and then after the game they will be back to being friends and team-mates.” Robertson is a key figure for Scotland and he has now become just as vital for the Reds, insists Thompson.
