The Victorian Premier said he would not be 'dealing with completely hypothetical matters' when asked about whether he would appear before a committee and 'actually submit himself to accountability and transparency measures'.
"And set-up a committee inquiry to start looking at the rollout of the Comm Games, and indeed the Olympic Games through our Senate inquiry process."But after the shock announcement last week, the committee this morning has agreed to reopen submissions and to actually seek updated submissions from those stakeholders who have already obviously given us evidence.
Ms McKenzie said the committee will investigate matters including when the decision was made to can the games, the financial implications, and what lessons can be learnt. She said in addition to the Premier and responsible ministers including Deputy Premier Jacinta Allan, there would be"international stakeholders who would be very, very keen to set the record straight". "In terms of the Premier and his ministers, I think one of the great privileges of being a minister and a leader in our parliamentary system is you get to make decisions," she said.
"If he really backs his decision, this is his opportunity to show the wider Australian public why he made the right decision, what it was based on and why we should back it in."
