If AndreaBocelli's voice travels straight to your heart on recordings, then it does you one better live. Indianapolis
Since I started attending live concerts after pandemic restrictions lifted, I've experienced this new-to-me reaction in which my eyes well up as soon as I hear the first few notes. It's a reminder of the privilege of such an encounter, a mental healing I didn't know I needed.'s voice, I knew I'd probably react with more tears when I heard him Wednesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
My eyes welled up during all of that, of course. But what struck me most were the goosebumps moments I didn't see coming. On"White Christmas," for example, Bocelli dropped down to an unexpectedly quiet final note and sustained it — a thrilling and difficult move showing that his talent is more than producing volume.
The chorus was impressive with its sheer power and ability to come down to almost a whisper during quiet moments. Both ensembles added a richness to Wednesday's concert that Hoosiers should brag about for a long time. Any large group of humans with instruments and voices can be difficult to balance with soloists, and I found the sound well-done and clear.
