André Holland has awards season to thank for his new project—and friendship!—with Damien Chazelle
Can you give us an update on how your quarantine has been? You have a Netflix show debuting while everyone’s stuck at home, so you’re going to help entertain us at least.Yeah, I hope so. The quarantine has been up and down. I’m here in Brooklyn, New York, and it’s been sad obviously and the sound of ambulances, sirens has been happening regularly.
Yeah, absolutely. It’s crazy. I mean to think that a little less than a year ago we were in Paris and I was riding around on my bike and sitting in cafés and drinking coffee with friends and having the time of my life and now that seems so far away. But yeah, hopefully we’ll at some point soon return to happier times.last year.
So on this podcast we talk about awards season a lot and we talk about the Oscars obsessively, and something that we always notice that I think is hard to tell from the outside is how much the people who are nominated for the same awards and have movies at the same time see each other all the time and forge friendships. WithI think it became so visible because of the whole mix-up where everyone was onstage together and there was this kind of this community among you guys.
So what were those building blocks you’re talking about? Is that building the character who you’re playing, or the mood of the show, or just talking generally about inspirations?
