The African National Congress Youth League Es’kia Mphahlele branch wants Unisa's principal and vice-chancellor, Professor Puleng LenkaBula, to be relieved from her duties, claiming she's 'paralysing' the institution

The league’s Es’kia Mphahlele branch at Unisa’s Sunnyside campus in Pretoria stated on Thursday afternoon that they noted progress made by Higher Education, Science and Innovation Minister Blade Nzimande when he appointed Professor Themba Mosia as an independent assessor, who was tasked to investigate the affairs of the university.

The organisation said it was their view that Unisa was teetering on the brink of collapse, but Nzimande seemed unwilling to take any action. Mosia’s report, the organisation said, proved that there was maladministration and mismanagement of finances at the university. It is further our view that the premise established in the ministerial task team and assessors’ reports regarding [their] incompetence and helplessness to say the least must [be] considered following deductive reasoning methods which accurately point to an immediate need to appoint an administrator to rescue Unisa from itself.

DR Congo Wants Probe Into North Kivu War Crimes AllegationsDR Congo Wants Probe Into North Kivu War Crimes AllegationsThe International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague said that it will examine war crimes allegations in the Democratic Republic (DRC) of the Congo after the government made a formal request to the tribunal. The referral is the second time the DRC government has appealed to the ICC, after an initial referral in 2004 convicted former militia leaders Bosco "Terminator" Ntaganda, who was jailed for 30 years for mass murder, rape and abduction. Thomas Lubanga Dyilo was also convicted and sentenced to 14 years imprisonment and Germain Katanga was sentenced to twelve years imprisonment, with time spent in ICC detention between September 18, 2007 and May 23, 2014, deducted from his sentence. Prosecutor Karim Khan said Kinshasa asked prosecutors to "investigate particular armed forces and groups" allegedly responsible for war crimes in North Kivu province from January 1, 2022, to date. Khan said he will assess whether the two referrals are similar enough in scope to form a single investigation. Kinshasa accuses Rwanda of backing rebel group M23 - a view supported by independent United Nations experts and several western nations, including the United States. However, Rwanda denies the accusations.
