As the city’s garbage disposal needs continue growing, the new Central Transfer Station in Midtown is intended to cut wait times and extend the life of the regional landfill.

The new Solid Waste Services central transfer station, with its large white roof, sits across 56th Avenue from the old transfer station, a much smaller building at right with a tan roof. The new transfer station is expected to be operational by this weekend. The city has spent the last three years building a new Central Transfer Station, an upgraded version of the current drop-off site for residential and commercial refuse, as well as hazardous household waste.
