The African National Congress (ANC) announced plans to restructure its leadership in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) to address the party's declining performance in these provinces. He said the ANC's constitution would guide the reconfiguration and would not interfere with government work in the two provinces. "The government will not be tampered with. It will remain the way it is. We are going to tamper with the ANC leadership within the framework of the ANC constitution," Mbalula said.
Mbalula said that national officials will bring a proposal on the reconfiguration of the leadership in KZN and Gauteng to the National Working Committee within a week.He said that many members of the NEC had presented their views on the matter, and that the decision was ultimately aimed at strengthening the party's leadership in the two provinces.
