The party has demanded former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter retract statements that implicate the party in corruption at Eskom

He told journalist Annika Larsen there was evidence to indicate that some in the ANC saw Eskom as a “feeding trough.” The interview has enlisted rebukes from President Cyril Ramaphosa and public enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan who have all publicly called on De Ruyter to come forward with evidence of corruption by ANC members at Eskom.

The ANC has demanded a retraction from De Ruyter, saying his comments during the interview are “false” and “defamatory” and imply that the party had received money from Eskom through unethical means. “Mr De Ruyter is also required to explain why he should not be referred to the Hawks in terms of section 34 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act 12 of 2004 for intentionally withholding “evidence” of criminal conduct while he held a position of authority at Eskom.
