The African National Congress (ANC) has undertaken a significant restructuring of its leadership in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) provinces following disappointing election results. The move aims to revitalize the party's performance in these key regions.
The African National Congress ( ANC ) National Working Committee (NWC) has made the decision to remove Thembinkosi Nciza and Bheki Mtolo from their positions as provincial secretaries of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) respectively. This move is aimed at creating space for a restructured leadership within both provinces. According to sources, the ANC national leadership reached this agreement after an extensive period of deliberation.
The reconfiguration is a direct response to the underwhelming performance of the two provincial executive committees (PECs) in the recent 2024 national and provincial elections. Gauteng secured 35% of the votes, while KZN managed only 17%, significantly lower compared to the ANC's national performance of 40%. In Gauteng, Amos Masondo, former mayor of Johannesburg, will assume the leadership role, with Panyaza Lesufi as deputy convener, Hope Papo as coordinator, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko as the head of deployment, and Tasneem Motara as the fundraiser. Jeff Radebe, a veteran of the party and former Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, is set to lead the KZN PEC, with Mike Mabuyakhulu, a former deputy chairperson, taking on the role of coordinator. The ANC is currently engaged in briefing the PECs on the details of this reconfiguration process, which was initiated by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and further mandated to the NWC for finalization
