Disciplinary hearing against former ANC president Jacob Zuma is expected to resume on Tuesday

FILE PHOTO: Former South African President Jacob Zuma speaks to supporters after appearing at the High Court in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, May 17, 2021.The disciplinary hearing against former African National Congress president Jacob Zuma is expected to resume on Tuesday on a virtual platform.

Zuma has been charged under rule 25 of the ANC constitution for endorsing the uMkhonto weSizwe Party ahead of the May general elections. Proceedings against Zuma were postponed last week so that outcomes of the hearing could be communicated to him by his representative and former ANC NEC member Tony Yengeni.

Zuma has argued that the hearing against him should be held in person. The former ANC president states that the provisions of the ANC constitution allow him to appear before the National Disciplinary Committee in person. Zuma has also requested that the hearing be made public. A request that has been vehemently rejected by the party. The ANC maintains that the disciplinary hearing against the MK leader will neither be held in person nor made public.
