The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, has declared that the party will not address allegations of corruption against ANC member Khumbudzo Ntshavheni until a formal arrest is made. He criticized the Hawks for leaking information and attempting to damage Ntshavheni's reputation.
The African National Congress's ( ANC ) secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula , stated that the party would not engage with allegations against member Khumbudzo Ntshavheni . Mbalula addressed the media on January 20, 2025, the same day the allegations against Ntshavheni emerged. He emphasized that there was nothing for the party to respond to because no one had been arrested.
Mbalula criticized the Hawks, accusing them of attempting to damage Ntshavheni's reputation and undermining the state's integrity. He asserted that if the Hawks had a legitimate case, due process should be followed. Mbalula argued that the leaking of the case docket indicated a weak chance of success for the prosecution. Ntshavheni has been accused of irregularly awarding a tender in 2009 when she served as the municipal manager of the Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality. The tender, for compiling the municipality's annual financial performance, was allegedly awarded to a company that was not on the bidding list despite five companies having submitted bids. Rodney Dodkins, a former Hawks spokesperson, commented on the situation. He pointed out that the Hawks had been probing Ntshavheni for years and that the recent allegations stemmed from their investigation. He also stated that the Hawks would continue to pursue the case vigorously. Ntshavheni has denied any wrongdoing and has vowed to fight the allegations.
