The ANC said it was not enough to only remove disruptive members from the house, 'because they keep on doing the same thing'.

CAPE TOWN - Parliament said it would look to tighten the rules of its joint sittings, to prevent the disruptions witnessed during the State of the Nation Address in February.

It proposed financial sanctions for errant members of Parliament , as a way to maintain the decorum of the institution.Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters were violently removed from the Cape Town City Hall ahead of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s yearly address, as they protested against his presence over the Phala Phala saga.

In a report on the actions she took on the night, National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula said she believed the disruptions caused by the EFF had the potential to cause violence, and to put the president in danger.
