ANC postpones Joburg conference following branch disputes and leader Moerane’s car crash | Citypress

The much-anticipated ANC Johannesburg regional conference set for this weekend has been postponed. Its build up was overshadowed by the shocking news of former mayor Mpho Moerane’s road accident on Monday night

The conference was expected to come up with a detailed new strategy for the party that finds itself in the opposition benches and out of power in the country’s economic hub.

On Wednesday, the Joburg regional task team received the regional dispute resolution committee report which highlighted that 43 branches lodged disputes with the branch general meetings. “To this end, the ANC greater Johannesburg regional task team has therefore resolved to postpone the conference to May 27-29 based on the report of the regional dispute committee.” The statement read:

Moerane was expected to go head to head with current secretary Dada Morero for the chairperson position.
