Johannesburg - Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams’s Sunday lunch rendezvous at the home of former higher education deputy minister Mduduzi Manana has landed her in hot water and ignited calls for her to be axed from the Cabinet.

“I will have a discussion with her about the impact of such visuals on the lockdown regulations,” he said. The luncheon photograph prompted ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte to warn that the governing party’s leaders must be seen to lead in both the letter and spirit of the national lockdown.

Ndabeni-Abrahams was part of Ramaphosa’s Covid-19 response team as part of her duties as a Cabinet member. She has been criticised for not setting an example and acting against the national interest. The picture was captioned: “It was great to host a former colleague and dear sister Cde Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams on her way back from executing critical and essential services required for the effective functioning of our country during the nationwide lockdown.”
