“We initially went to the IEC to protest because we noticed that the regional secretary, Eugene Modise, had put the names of his favourite people on the list. We were not happy about that,' says member of the Tshwane region, Cyril Thabiso Phatshwane.

A member of the Tshwane region, Cyril Thabiso Phatshwane, who was part of the group of ANC members who protested outside Luthuli House last week, told City Press that leadership should step in and deal with the matter efficiently.“We initially went to the IEC to protest because we noticed that the regional secretary, Eugene Modise, had put the names of his favourite people on the list. We were not happy about that.

Dissatisfied members of the governing party have emerged from Mawiga, Mamelodi, Hammanskraal, Atteridgeville and the inner city branches, particularly because of the party’s public vote process, which was introduced for this year’s election. “In the inner city, Peace Mabe and Glenda Kwenda interfered in the process. They disappeared with ballot boxes,” Phatshwane claimed.

At least four ANC members who had been competing in wards have decided to leave the party – one of them being Mary Modise. The community of ward 73 In Hammanskraal wanted her to be a candidate, however this did not materialise because the party never allowed the community vote.
