On Monday, Judge Denise Fisher ruled that the region’s May 2022 conference, which was marred by violence, along with all its decisions, resolutions, and election results needed to be set aside.

JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress in Gauteng will meet again on Tuesday, following Monday night’s urgent provincial executive committee meeting over a high court judgement regarding Ekurhuleni’s shambolic regional conference.Fisher also questioned the roles played by current Gauteng provincial secretary TK Nciza and the ANC’s first deputy secretary general, Nomvula Mokonyane, in processes leading up to, during, and after the regional conference.

In the 55-page verdict, Fisher took issue with the ANC’s handling of its own verification processes, how the party’s national executive committee responded to complaints from the four branches, as well as its 70% threshold rule used to determine if a conference can go ahead. Nciza told Eyewitness News that such a judgement could have dire consequences for the ANC as a political party.
