The deadline for ANC branches to convene branch general meetings to nominate the party's top six at the national conference in December has been extended — again. This time by another week.

Last week, ANC Eastern Cape spokesperson Loyiso Magqashela told Sowetan they had convened just over 180 branches out of the province's 641 branches. “The NEC reflected on some of the challenges faced by branches, including load-shedding, the impact of industrial action and systems issues. Based on an assessment of these reports, it was clear that a number of branches would not be able to hold their BGMs by the extended deadline of Tuesday October 25 2022.
