Free State ANC caucus employees are suing the party for unpaid salaries and benefits, alleging irregular deductions and contract issues. The dispute centers around non-payment of salaries and failure to contribute to the UIF.
Some employees of the Free State ANC caucus in the legislature have taken the party to the CCMA for not paying their salaries. They have also contacted the labour department to secure a commitment from the party to pay outstanding Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) benefits. Workers claim the ANC caucus deducted more than necessary from their Pay As You Earn (PAYE) contributions for five years. They last received full salaries in July and only partial payments before that.
They discovered their UIF contributions were not paid and PAYE deductions did not reach the South African Revenue Services. Now, they demand all unpaid amounts. Tumelo Matia, an employee of the ANC caucus, explains that the primary dispute is the non-payment of salaries, as their last payment was in July and their contracts were not renewed post-elections.
