The African National Congress (ANC) has urged the United Nations Security Council to address the escalating violence against UN peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The party expressed condolences to the families of fallen South African soldiers killed in an attack near Goma Airport and called for sensitivity surrounding the incident. While declining to comment on the details of the attack, ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula emphasized the soldiers' dedication to peace and security. He assured the public that Defence Minister Angie Motshekga would provide a comprehensive briefing on Wednesday. The incident has heightened tensions in the region, prompting President Cyril Ramaphosa to contact Rwandan President Paul Kagame. The East African Community is scheduled to hold a virtual meeting to discuss the situation in the DRC, while protests erupted outside the French diplomatic mission in Kinshasa.

We have done that in many other countries and there are military protocols when it comes to armaments that guide nations that lead peacekeeping missions in this regard. So, sweeping stations that our soldiers are unarmed, we defer to the government to answer and we have been assured by the Minister that it will happen tomorrow.
