Branches in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga will not attend the ANC's 113th birthday celebrations due to concerns about the venue's capacity.

The African National Congress (ANC) is preparing for its 113th birthday celebrations , but some branches won't be attending. Branches in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga have confirmed they will not attend the celebrations in the Western Cape. One reason cited is the size of the Mandela Park Stadium, which can reportedly only hold 2,000 people. Mpumalanga is planning its own provincial celebrations on January 25th at the Kameelrivier Ga Morwe Stadium, which can seat 8,000.

KZN's party spokesperson, Mafika Mndebele, stated that the province won't be bussing members to the rally, but members can choose to go on their own. Mndebele mentioned the possibility of road accidents as one reason for not bussing people, adding that it would be irresponsible to pack members into buses just to attend. Some South Africans are worried that the two branches may be punished for their decision
