President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda is known in some circles as a typical African strongman - with many years in power, no sign of stepping down, human rights abuse claims, and oppression of voices of dissent. | CdeLENIN

In his Independence Day speech, he painted a picture of a leader who wanted to see an Africa with its own solutions and a shift in the globalisation structure that benefitted it.

In his view, he spoke about the same concerns as the late celebrated Ugandan literary giant, Okot p'Bitek, in the poemMuseveni spoke about Africa's raw materials and minerals being exported without value to international markets, negatively impacting economies. In 2009, in Zimbabwe, it took the late Robert Mugabe to threaten to grab Nestlé's assets for the Swiss giant to resume trade.
