A new Ahsoka teaser suggests Grand Admiral Thrawn is an 'intergalactic threat' - who are the true villains of the next Disney+ TV show?
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT A new Ahsoka teaser hints that Grand Admiral Thrawn is an "intergalactic threat." The internet is abuzz with excitement for the upcoming Ahsoka Disney+ TV show, which will star Rosario Dawson as Anakin Skywalker's former Padawan.
The comment is certainly an intriguing one. Thrawn originates from the Unknown Regions, a vast unexplored part of the galaxy, and he is generally believed to have been lost in that same sector of space for some years now. It's possible, though, that the hyperspace accident that took Thrawn out of known space actually led to his being stranded beyond the fringes of the galaxy, where he gained new allies.
Who Are Grand Admiral Thrawn's Mysterious Allies? Trailers and concept art have strongly implied Thrawn has found new allies. Thrawn has been shown standing on a golden bridge, one with a very different design to anything associated with either the Empire or inhabitants of the Unknown Regions. There's been some speculation this mysterious vessel is associated with the Rakata, a race of conquerors who ruled the galaxy millennia ago and who were name-dropped in Andor.
This reference to an intergalactic threat raises the stakes, though. It suggests Ahsoka is the beginning of a story at a greater scale than ever seen on-screen before; the idea is only comparable to one in Star Wars Legends, in which a race of extragalactic invaders called the Yuuzhan Vong swept through the galaxy. The Yuuzhan Vong almost appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars - but this is certainly not a canon version of the aliens.
Lucasfilm's Dave Filoni does have a habit of drawing on Star Wars Legends for inspiration. In Legends, the Yuuzhan Vong's hatred of technology was a result of an ancient war with a race of conquerors described as "more technological than animate." Ahsoka could draw on this idea, perhaps combining it with the Rakata to create a terrifying new enemy for the Star Wars galaxy. The possibilities are truly limitless.
