"The People's House" will offer a more in-depth tour than most people usually get of the executive mansion. And it will be free.

The replica White House will open in the Mills Building across 17th Street from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. One exhibit will be dedicated to the people who work in the White House—the plumbers, butlers, electricians, grounds crew, and more. Another will display the research the association has done over the past seven years on theMichelle Obama’s comments about the building’s provenance in 2016. “We view those enslaved people as just as much a part a history of the house as presidents,” McLaurin says. “They’re part of the fabric of that place.”, among other goods. And, McLaurin says, he’s “pretty confident” the exhibit will be ready to open on or around September 14, 2024. That’s less than two months before voters will decide whether the current occupant of the mansion will live there the next year. “There’s only one White House,” McLaurin says, “and it belongs to everybody.
