The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens is now treating the African serval, reports say.

CINCINNATI, Ohio — Before there was “Cocaine Bear,” there apparently was a cocaine cat in southwest Ohio.

Cincinnati Animal Care was called in to get the serval out of the tree, WXIX reports. CAC community engagement manager Ray Anderson tells WEWS that rescuers initially thought the cat was a hybrid F1 Savannah, which is legal to own in Ohio. What officials didn’t know at the time was the cat had cocaine in its system, which was later confirmed through blood tests. It’s unclear how cocaine got into the cat’s system.

Anderson said the serval was not eager to leave the tree, but rescuers eventually got it down. Unfortunately, it suffered a broken leg in the process, reports say.
