“It’s like a conversation and a meeting point between two opposite elements,” says Giambattista Valli of his reworking of a classic Moncler design.

Valli is no newcomer to Moncler. Rather appropriately given his take on the Maya jacket, the Italian, Paris-based designer knows the label, led by chairman and CEO Remo Ruffini, inside out. From 2008 to 2018, Valli was the creative director of the brand’s womenswear Moncler Gamme Rouge line, delivering breathtaking runway shows with elaborate sets, featuring runways lined with verdant meadows and even ski lifts, or imagining a love story between a snowflake and a polar bear.

Despite the enormity of Moncler Gamme Rouge’s catwalk shows, for Valli the joy of the longtime collaboration came from the close sense of intimacy he felt with the label’s team. “We had a really small team,” Valli says of his decade spent working with the brand. “Remo, his right hands and I were doing everything.”For Valli’s collaborative Extraordinary Icon campaign, the designer enlisted Bianca Brandolini and Honey Dijon to model his dreamlike designs.
