“I jumped at the opportunity,” he tells Cumberland Wire. “Because I knew it’d be a great opportunity for my daughter and her friends.” “We were kind of underdogs going in,” says Murray. “But the girls bought into my philosophy of practicing how we play, and we practice hard, so we play hard. We never gave up and we fought.”At the conclusion of a successful season on and off the field, parents of players nominated Murray for the Baseball Nova Scotia Grassroots Coach of the Year for his efforts developing the girls’ baseball program.

Murray was grateful to the parents and his players as well as to his father, Larry Lines, who was a baseball coach and he says is the main reason he is where he is today.Murray started coaching baseball when he was just 17. He had played for the Amherst Lions until he was 12. When his coach asked him if he wanted to help, he agreed.He then went from coaching Little League to midget.

Murray expects hard work from his players and they deliver time and time again. As a coach he also wants to make sure his athletes know they can mistakes.
