Amazon plans to triple the number of electric delivery vans it uses to deliver packages in Europe and buy more electric semis.
it will spend more than €1 billion over the next five years to reduce emissions from its fleet of delivery vehicles in Europe. It intends to increase the number of electric delivery vehicles from 3000 today to 10,000, and will add 1,500 electric long haul trucks. In addition, it will add more electric cargo bikes for last mile distribution in congested cities and encourage more public charging infrastructure to support the transition to electric cars.
Amazon has launched micro-mobility hubs — smaller, centrally located delivery stations — in more than 20 cities across Europe, including London, Munich, and Paris, and expects to double that figure by the end of 2025. In Europe’s traditionally dense cities, the hubs enable Amazon to operate new delivery methods, such as e-cargo bikes and foot deliveries, to bring packages to customers more sustainably.
