The number of open positions available in Amazon’s South African operations has increased significantly over the past few months.

The increase in recruitment activity comes after a period of job cuts across the tech industry — including sweeping layoffs in Amazon ’s e-commerce and streaming businesses in 2023 and early 2024.

A team led by Chris Pinkham in Cape Town was responsible for developing the service’s key Elastic Compute component, which would play a fundamental role in making AWS the world’s biggest cloud platform. One part of continuing to improve this platform and maintaining its market dominance is ensuring that Amazon has top tech talent at its disposal.
