Calgarians marking their first day as Canadians were among thousands who celebrated the nation\u0027s birthday at events across the city Saturday

“I share the pride you feel today because just a few short years ago I was in your shoes, swearing my own Canadian citizenship,” she said, adding the new citizens should be confident in the diversity and hard work they bring to Canada.Calgarians also celebrated the nation’s birthday at city-hosted events at Fort Calgary, St. Patrick’s Island, Olympic Plaza, Prairie Winds Park and the municipal building with events that acknowledged Canada’s history and diversity.
In a Canada Day statement, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith emphasized Alberta’s role in strengthening the country and noted Indigenous peoples’ contributions.
