Alvin Community College had about 150 students on track to receive an associates degree in nursing in 2022, while 21 pursued becoming a licensed vocational nurse.Alvin Community College will begin offering a bridge program to allow certified nursing assistants to transition to the college's vocational nurse program in 2024.
Certified nursing assistants focus on assisting patients with daily activities such as making beds and feeding and helping dress patients. Vocational nurses provide a higher level of care that includes administering vaccinations and medication and drawing blood. “This new pathway will allow qualified applicants to take a continuing education VN Bridge course that will prepare them for transition into the second semester of the VN Program,” said McTaggart.
