Degree inflation is one critical factor — it means the job itself doesn’t require a degree, but there is now an “understood” degree requirement. For example, it’s estimated that two-thirds of “production supervisor” job descriptions cite a bachelor's degree as a requirement, but only 16% of workers who currently hold that position actually have that degree.
