Concerns have been raised over the number of young people in the borough vaping
Teenage smoking is close to an “all time low” in Sefton, but nearly half of young people have tried vaping, according to a council report.
The report, jointly produced by the council’s trading standards and public health departments stated that from a survey carried out with 800 of the borough’s teens, more young girls than boys are vaping on a regular basis. Most young people surveyed use disposal vapes and buy them in shops, according to the survey – prompting concerns of underage sales of vapes.
In a bid to tackle the growing problem, trading standards officers have been carrying out a number of enforcement actions, including testing vape retailers using underage volunteers.
