“The Knicks had been the only basketball team in New York City. So I was a part of this new era of bringing basketball to Brooklyn. Being a woman with big curly hair, letting her voice be heard as the featured entertainment of the Nets, is showing women everywhere that this is something they can do too. WeThis determination to empower women and young girls is just one of the guiding principles that inspires Love in her day-to-day.
Here’s the thing: having had this near death experience led Love to believe that she was destined to make an impact in life. She knew she had a greater purpose in the world — which she has learned to channel through all the avenues she is involved in.A large part of this impact is through Love Squad, an inclusive community launched by Love to embolden women to unleash their inner boss and reclaim their power by facilitating educational and honest conservations.
For Love, a big part of relationships is about showing up for others in real time, whether that means going to events to support your friends and family, checking in on friends often, and listening when others speak. When Love was unsure about whether she would walk normally again after her accident as a child — much less dance and stand on the basketball court in heels! — it came down to the basics. It’s very much like learning to walk again, step by step.
