Allen's planning and zoning commission rejected a developer's application for a Murphy USA gas station on Exchange Parkway and Alma Drive on Tuesday night.Following the objections of hundreds of community members, Allen’s planning and zoning commission rejected a developer’s plans for a Murphy USA gas station at the intersection of Exchange Parkway and Alma Drive in a 5-1 vote on Tuesday night.
Residents from Twin Creeks and Glendover Park came to the commission’s meeting to oppose the gas station and spoke during public comment for over an hour. About 500 community members also objected to the gas station in an online petition. Neighborhood residents said they didn’t want the gas station in the neighborhood because of its proximity to two preschools and other area gas stations within a short driving distance. They said they were also worried about property values decreasing, environmental and public health, and sex trafficking at gas stations.If the applicant petitions, the gas station could still go before the City Council and be approved with a supermajority vote, staff members said.
