A thief armed with a screwdriver allegedly threatened to harm staff at a grocery store in View Royal when making off with a cart full of stolen goods, police say. On Jan. 20, West Shore RCMP was called to the Quality Foods at 27 Helmcken Rd. following a report that a man was brandishing a screwdriver and attempting to flee the store without paying for the groceries in his cart.
The suspect, a 34-year-old man, fled the store on foot and jumped into a large dumpster nearby in an apparent attempt to hide from police, according to Mounties.Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.The suspect was located by officers and arrested for robbery without further incident. He remains in custody until Jan. 30, RCMP added in a release.
