Allee Willis, colorful songwriter behind 'September' and 'Friends' theme, has died at age 72, according to her partner.
Allee Willis, the eclectic and gleefully offbeat Grammy-winning songwriter behind Earth, Wind & Fire's"September," the theme for the sitcom"Friends," and the score for the Broadway production of"The Color Purple," died on Tuesday, according to her partner. She was 72.."Rest in Boogie Wonderland," Fenton wrote in the caption to a photo of Willis standing in front of the famed Motown Museum in Detroit.
She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018 for a sprawling catalog that also included the Pointer Sisters'"Neutron Dance," the Pet Shop Boys'"What Have I Done to Deserve This?" and the Rembrandts'"I'll Be There for You," also known as the"Friends" theme.Sign Up
