Ridley Scott's director's cut of Alien reinserted a legendary deleted scene that creates a huge plot hole for later entries in the franchise.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Ridley Scott's Alien: Director's Cut reinserted a scene that creates a major plot hole within the franchise. The Alien series has produced a few famous deleted scenes over the years, such as Ripley discovering the cocooned Burke during the finale of Aliens or the reawakened Engineer briefly speaking in Scott's prequel Prometheus.
Of course, the rules of the Alien movie franchise's titular Xenomorph were largely established in the 1979 original, from its lifecycle to the creature bleeding acid blood. One element that was kept a mystery was what laid the eggs that the crew of the Nostromo discovered in the derelict, and the answer only came with the release of Aliens in 1986. James Cameron's sequel revealed the existence of the Alien Queen, who lays the eggs and is the ruler of a given Xenomorph hive.
The unfortunate duo is in the process of being "eggmorphed," with their bodies being used to create new facehugger eggs. While Brett is very dead, Ripley finds Dallas barely alive, and he begs her to put him out of his misery. A very reluctant Ripley then torches both eggs, before fleeing the Nostromo before it self-destructs.
Alien Director's Cut Brett And Kane Contradicts The Xenomorph Lifecycle Thanks to the slightly faster pace of Scott's revised Alien: Director's Cut, it just about works in that version. When it came time for Cameron to put pen to paper on Aliens, he decided against using the deleted eggmorphing concept in favor of the Alien Queen, which was inarguably the better idea.
