While the 15-year-old company might not yet be as well known as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure, its technology forms the backbone of one of the world’s biggest e-commerce giants and has plenty to offer South African businesses.
Multi-national cloud giant Alibaba Cloud aims to become a leading cloud services provider in South Africa by offering its customers cost-effective and stable pricing, as well as other benefits.Its Africa Local Public Cloud service went live from two data centres in Johannesburg — BCX ’s facility in Midrand and Teraco’s in Isando — in October 2023.
While the company’s cloud service segment might be relatively unknown among the general public in South Africa, it has been a big player since 2009. Similar to what Amazon Web Services does for Amazon.com’s online marketplaces, Alibaba Cloud forms the backbone of the company’s e-commerce ecosystem.
