While students are looking forward to the end of the academic year, teachers and professors are preparing for large piles of grading.
I typically grade all my students’ papers, then arrange them in order of ascending grades and go through them again to check consistency. Often, teachers then have to put papers in alphabetical order for their records. This repeated rearranging isn’t too tedious with a small pile of papers, but for those who grade hundreds of papers, a system helps considerably.
