The move comes in addition to the company's second pay rise this year
Aldi is hiring 260 people in Nottinghamshire as the discount supermarket chain's latest pay rise comes into force this week. Shop assistants at the supermarkets - meaning those who work on the shop floor, stacking shelves or on tills - are to see their £12.00 hourly rate increase by 40p.
It means they will now be paid £12.40 per hour. That equates to a yearly salary of £24,180 for someone in full-time employment working 37.5 hours per week - which is more than the earnings of an average school secretary, sports coach or veterinary nurse, according to the Trade Unions Congress . It is the second pay rise this year for Aldi colleagues and means the company has invested £79m since the start of 2024 on wages. It also means Aldi continues to be the best-paying supermarket to work at.
Full and part-time positions will be available for "all levels of experience" in the latest recruitment drive. Employees also get paid for breaks. Aldi's UK HR Director Kelly Stokes said: “The roll out of our latest pay increase cements our commitment to our colleagues that we will always be the best-paying retailer. Our colleagues play an integral part in our ever-increasing popularity, and this is another way for us to acknowledge the incredible work they do every day across the UK.”To try and make things a little easier, we have now launched a new WhatsApp community to bring you the latest news and headlines straight to your phone.
