Edmonton and other Alberta municipalities remain under extreme smoke risk as provincial firefighters brace for worsening wildfire conditions

For comparison, the 2016 Horse River fire that forced the evacuation of more than 90,000 people, including Fort McMurray, destroyed 2,400 homes and businesses.

“It’s so important that all Albertans continue to obey the fire bans and restrictions that are in place,” said Blair. “It’s vital that everyone do their part to help prevent new wildfires, prevent further damage and avoid further stressing the dedicated firefighting resources working across Alberta around the clock.”

Twelve “priority offenders” have been taken into custody or removed from communities, there have been 28 reports of break and enters or trespassing, and 12 charges have been laid as of Wednesday.
