Kevin Koe and Alberta cruised past Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs to reach the final of the Brier championship.
BRANDON, Man. — Alberta’s Kevin Koe advanced to the final of the Canadian men’s curling championship with a 9-4 win over Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs in Saturday’s playoff game between tournament’s top two seeds.
It would also be the fourth time Koe has skipped a winning team with at least one new player in the lineup each time. Edmonton’s Bottcher ousted defending champion Brad Gushue 7-2 in Saturday’s playoff between the third and fourth seeds.Alberta was quick out of the gates Saturday scoring two with hammer in the first end, stealing three in the second and generating another deuce in the fourth for a 7-1 lead.B.J. Neufeld at third and Colton Flasch at second joined Koe and lead Ben Hebert for this season after Koe, Marc Kennedy, Brent Laing and Hebert placed fourth at last year’s Winter Olympics.
Northern Ontario dominated the early part of the tournament. The team won eight in a row — including six that were over after eight ends — and Jacobs didn’t have to throw his last shot in the 10th in any of them.
